Substrate for mushroom cultivation
At Walkro, we make substrate specially developed for growing mushrooms. What starts as horse manure, poultry litter and straw is processed by us into a high-quality base for successful cultivation.
We have been doing this for decades and have the entire process in-house: from raw material to delivery to the grower.
What does Walkro supply?
Walkro supplies grown substrate (phase 3). This means the substrate is fully grown with mushroom mycelium and immediately ready for use in cultivation.
The substrate is produced at several locations in the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany and supplied to growers at home and abroad.

How is the substrate made?
The basis consists of: horse manure, poultry litter, straw and gypsum.
These raw materials are carefully mixed and go through a controlled process.
First, the composting process starts, with bacteria doing their work. This is followed by pasteurisation to remove unwanted organisms and make the substrate suitable for cultivation.
Next, the substrate is inoculated with mushroom mycelium and given time to grow fully under controlled conditions.
What do you get as a grower?
You receive grown substrate that:
This ensures a good start to cultivation.
Quality and control
Because the substrate is a natural product, control is important. That is why Walkro continuously monitors the quality of raw materials and the production process.
This is done by, among other things:

Delivery and cooperation
